Location
The Chancay district is located 65 km to the north of the city of Lima in the province of Huaral. It is also its capital and an important city in the region because of its comercial and turistic activities without mentioning its cultural legacy.
Is a nice town of farmers, ranchers and fishermen. A great part of the chickens and eggs consumed within the larger Lima are produced in the zone. The Port of Chancay is located adjacent to the city. Factories caning fish and processing fish meal stand there.
The Chancay Culture
The Chancay Culture developed big urban groups with ceremonial buildings based on mud and rocks as building materials.
Its agriculture showed us a lot of ennginer works a water reservoirs.
The main activity of Chancay Culture has been extracting and collecting products from maritime, animal and vegetation resources.
Inside The Castle of Chancay
History :
It begins with one of the descents of the Virrey, one of the most charmy and respectful men, the Virrey manuel Amat y Juniet who felt in love with Micaela Villegas, best known as "La Perricholi". From this union, appears Maria Santos Corrales, muse of Mariano Melgar, a famous peruvian writer and alo the grandmother of the creator of these amazing architectural structure: Consuelo Amat y León Rolando. Who, after finishing her studies in Europe decides to build the HOTEL VILLA MADRE PERLA, nowadays know as EL CASTILLO DE CHANCAY, which is located in front of where the chilean frigate "LA COVADONGA" was sunk since 1889.

Main attractions inside the Castle
- The Remembrance Room
It’s the initial side of the Castle. It’s made of mud. It was the room of Consuelo Amat. Inside it, there are the lady’s belongings and a cash register from the hotel of that time (19th Century).
There are also family objets dating from the nineteeth Century. In this room, you can see Consuelo Amat’s bedroom. Inside it, there are her personal objets that are carefully keept until now the bed, the cradle, the lamp and many old pictures.
- The Hunting Room
There are dissected animals recollected from different parts of the world. These are important collections unique in this zone.
- The Chancay Museum
The owner of the Castle is Borggio, who is in charge of all the pieces that are here for example the pottery, the textile and the mummies.
The Magic Legends of The Castle
- The Lady of the sea
It is said that anybody can see a lady inside the Castle, she is always searching her husband. She was dresses in white. She was Consuelo Amat, the owner and the creator of this Castle from that time. She made this Castle in honor of her husband, the Virrey Manuel Amat y Junniet.
- The tunnel
Some people said that below the Castle there is a tunnel. This tunnel connect the travel to Huaraz Town. It was used in the war of Peru and Chile. Now this tunnel in closed because some people aid that anyone who enter in, then, can not go out from there.
- La Covadonga
You can see in what point of the sea the battleship “La Covadonga” was sunk; this battleship was the most important during the war between Peru and Chile.

It is considerated a historical square not only for its events that happened here.

- The Mother Church
It has the image of the Virgen of Sorrows. It is said that she seen above the sea and she helps all the fishermen in their daily activities.
